The most famous of Florida's Wild creatures has to be the alligator.  They say that every pond in Florida has one, this may be so but they stay well hidden.   The fact is you have to keep a sharp lookout if you want to see one.  However if you do come across one don't play with it and it is important not to feed them.  The only other four legged wild animals that we have seen are rabbits squirrels and the occasional raccoon.

I am told that there are cat fish in lake Davenport, hence the fishing dock at Bahama Bay.

The most plentiful and varied are the birds these range from the Bald Eagle to vultures which I think they call turkey buzzards, these can always be seen circling over head there are also other small hawks.

The most plentiful of the water fowl are the Grackles, these are a type of blackbird though they sound and look more like starlings.  They are opportunists and seem to get anywhere that there is a chance of even the smallest meal.  They are said to like the edges of ponds but they can be seen in practically any carpark.  By the way of waterfoul look out for the Sandhill Cranes, they stand nearly 4' tall and have red caps, there are Glossy Ibis with greenish black feathers the size of a goose but taller and with a down curving beak.  There are lots of Herons and Egrets, ducks of all discriptions, coots, moorhens and some little birds that sing their socks off in the morning and evening.

Down on the Gulf coast apart from the Gulls Terns and all the seabirds that you would expect to see there are numerous Pelicans, these big ungainly looking birds with their huge bills look as if flying would be beyond them.  However when they take off they suddenly become quite graceful.

In short even if you have only a passing interest in wildlife, take your binoculars, you will be amply rewarded.
